Meet the maker.
I’m Llinos Mai the maker behind Eska. Every item designed and made by us will be produced by these hands!
Born and raised in the shadows of the Penrhyn Quarry, slate has a particular connection to my heritage. And this is why, for the past 2 years, I have devoted my master’s degree, time and career to developing processes that showcase the extraordinary qualities and potential of slate waste.
Developing a range of products that is not only sustainable and local but showcases key elements of Welsh identity and pride.
North Wales’ slate industry.
The slate industry of North Wales has an incredible history. A history that has shaped its culture and heritage greatly. Pieces of that history, touched by skilled hands that has long since passed, can be found under century’s worth of discarded slate mounds that beautifully adorn the landscape of Bethesda.
Excavating slate produces mountains worth of “unusable” slate. With 90% of slate mined being considered waste. Through utilising the discarded “waste” our aim is to create products that are not only beautiful but also work in tandem with local Quarrys to revere every precious part of the Welsh landscape.
